But walk through a house and what your eye actually catches is the trim: how the crown meets the corner, whether the baseboard joints are tight, how a built-in sits against the wall. Custom carpentry is the detail layer, and it is where craftsmanship is most visible.
What we build
Built-in shelving and bookcases
Flanking a fireplace, filling a wall, turning a dead corner into storage. Built to the space — scribed to out-of-plumb walls, which in older homes means every wall.
Wainscoting and wall treatments
Board and batten, picture-frame molding, full wainscot, shiplap done properly (not the peel-and-stick kind). Transforms flat drywall walls into architecture.
Crown molding and trim upgrades
Replacing builder-grade trim with real profiles — taller baseboards, proper crown, cased openings. One of the highest-impact changes per dollar in an older home.
Mantels and fireplace surrounds
Custom mantels, surround tile or stone coordination, hearth detailing. The fireplace is the focal point of the room — it should look like it.
Custom closets and storage
Reach-ins rebuilt for actual use, mudroom built-ins, under-stair storage. Designed around what you own, not around a wire-shelf kit.
Matching existing work
Half our custom carpentry is matching: a 1960s ranch with a trim profile nobody makes anymore, a colonial with crown we need to replicate in the addition. We mill, combine, or custom-order profiles to match. Bring us a sample — we will tell you honestly what is possible.
Finish matters as much as build
Carpentry is only half the job; the finish is the other half. Nail holes filled, joints caulked, sanded smooth, primed and painted (or stained) to furniture standard. We do both — built and finished by the same crew, so nothing gets lost between trades.
