The short answer
Hall bathrooms in our area often land in the $10,000–$20,000 range. Master suites with layout changes, premium tile, and upgraded fixtures run higher — into the twenties and beyond. Powder rooms can be done for considerably less.
A note on prices: material and labor costs move up and down, and no two projects need the same work. Treat any numbers on this page as starting points, not quotes. Your written estimate after our free visit is the real number for your project.
Where the money goes
Tile and waterproofing: 20–30%
Tile is the signature material of a bathroom, and the waterproofing behind it is the most important work nobody sees. This is not the place to economize on labor — bad tile work fails visibly and expensively.
Plumbing fixtures and valve: 15–25%
Shower valve, tub/shower unit or custom shower, toilet, vanity faucet. The shower valve especially — buy the good one. It lives inside your wall.
Vanity and counters: 10–20%
Stock vanities to custom. Double vanities roughly double this line.
Labor: 25–35%
Demo, plumbing, electrical, tile setting, drywall, paint. Bathrooms are small but dense — a lot of trades in a tight space.
What moves the number
- Layout changes. Moving the toilet or shower drain is the biggest cost driver — concrete or subfloor work, new venting, new supply lines.
- Tile scope and selection. Floor-only vs. floor-to-ceiling, ceramic vs. natural stone. Tile labor is per square foot of installed tile — more tile, more labor.
- Tub-to-shower conversion. Common and worthwhile, but it involves drain work, waterproofing, tile, and glass — budget accordingly.
- What is behind the walls. Old plumbing, water damage, mold — we check before quoting so it is in the price.
Where to spend vs. save
Spend: shower valve, waterproofing system, tile labor, ventilation fan. These are the things that prevent failures.
Save: decorative tile (use it as an accent, not the whole shower), light fixtures, mirrors, paint. Easy to upgrade later, zero structural risk.
